Nod2 Signaling Adaptor Protein
Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-containing protein 2 (NOD2) is an intracellular pattern recognition receptor that plays a crucial role in the innate immune response, primarily by detecting muramyl dipeptide (MDP), a component of bacterial peptidoglycan. Upon activation by MDP, NOD2 undergoes oligomerization and recruits several adaptor proteins to form a signaling complex, leading to the activation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways, which ultimately result in the production of proinflammatory cytokines and antimicrobial peptides.
