Anti-diabetic activity of alcoholic extract of Celosia argentea Linn. seeds in rats. (1/7)

Celosia argentea Linn. commonly known as "Cocks Comb" and its seeds are widely used in Indian folk medicine for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of an alcoholic extract of Celosia argentea seeds (ACAS) on blood glucose and body weight in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. ACAS was found to reduce the increase of blood glucose in alloxan-induced diabetic rats (27.8% at 250 mg/kg and 38.8% at 500 mg/kg body weight). Chronic administration of ACAS significantly (p<0.01) reduced the blood glucose in alloxan-induced diabetic rats for two weeks. Also the extract prevented a decrease in body weight in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. These results suggest that the ACAS possesses anti-diabetic activity in alloxan-induced diabetic rats.  (+info)

An antiviral protein having deoxyribonuclease and ribonuclease activity from leaves of the post-flowering stage of Celosia cristata. (2/7)

An antiviral protein named CCP-27 was purified from the leaves of Celosia cristata at the post-flowering stage by anion-exchange, cation-exchange, and gel-filtration chromatography. It exhibited resistance against sunnhemp rosette virus in its test host Cyamopsis tetragonoloba. It also exhibited deoxyribonuclease activity against supercoiled pBlueScript SK+ plasmid DNA. It was found to nick supercoiled DNA into nicked circular form at lower protein concentration followed by nicked to linear form conversion at higher protein concentration. CCP-27 also possesses strong ribonuclease activity against Torula yeast rRNA.  (+info)

Synthesis of the celogentin C right-hand ring. (3/7)

[reaction: see text] Synthesis of the cyclic tetrapeptide comprising the right-hand ring of celogentin C, a potent inhibitor of tubulin polymerization, has been accomplished. A mild oxidative coupling reaction permitted construction of the indole-imidazole linkage via a convergent union of two fully functionalized dipeptides. A high-yielding macrolactamization and subsequent deprotection of the N-terminus furnished the target compound.  (+info)

Phenolic constituents of Celosia cristata L. susceptible to spinach root rot pathogen Aphanomyces cochlioides. (4/7)

Cochliophilin A (5-hydroxy-6,7-methylenedioxyflavone, 1), known as a host-specific attractant towards the zoospores of Aphanomyces cochlioides, a cause of root rot and damping-off diseases of Chenopodiaceae, was found in the Amaranthaceae plant, Celosia cristata, that is susceptible to the pathogen. The content of 1 in Celosia seedlings was quantified as 1.4 microg/g fresh weight. A new isoflavone, cristatein (5-hydroxy-6-hydroxymethyl-7,2'-dimethoxyisoflavone, 2), and five known flavonoids were also identified.  (+info)

Triterpenoid saponins from the seeds of Celosia argentea and their anti-inflammatory and antitumor activities. (5/7)

Three new triterpenoid saponins, named celosin E (1), celosin F (2) and celosin G (3), together with a known compound cristatain (4), were isolated from the seeds of Celosia argentea L. (Amaranthaceae). All the isolated compounds were obtained for the first time from this plant. The structures of new compounds were characterized on the basis of extensive NMR experiments and mass spectrometry data. The antitumor and anti-inflammatory activities of the four compounds were tested in vitro.  (+info)

Plant regeneration and cellular behaviour studies in Celosia cristata grown in vivo and in vitro. (6/7)

Four botanical extracts are toxic to the hispine beetle, Brontispa longissima, in laboratory and semi-field trials. (7/7)

I'm sorry for any confusion, but "Celosia" is not a medical term. It is actually the name of a genus of flowering plants, also known as cockscomb or woolflower, which are often grown as ornamental plants due to their vibrant and unique flowers. If you have any medical terms or concepts that you would like me to define or explain, I'd be happy to help!
