A plant genus of the family ASTERACEAE. The common name of thoroughwort is also used for other plants including EUPATORIUM; CHROMOLAENA, Hebeclinium and Koanophyllon. Eupolin is the aqueous extract of the leaves.

Platelet-activating factor (PAF) receptor binding antagonist activity of the methanol extracts and isolated flavonoids from Chromolaena odorata (L.) King and Robinson. (1/8)

The leaf, stem and root extracts of Chromolaena odorata were evaluated for their effect on platelet-activating factor (PAF) receptor binding on rabbit platelets using 3H-PAF as a ligand. The leaf extract demonstrated high PAF receptor binding inhibitory activity of 79.2+/-2.1% at 18.2 microg/ml. A total of eleven flavonoids were subsequently isolated from the active leaf extract and evaluated for their effects on PAF receptor binding. Eight of the flavonoids exhibited >50% inhibition on the binding activity at 18.2 microg/ml. These flavonoids were identified as eriodictyol 7,4'-dimethyl ether, quercetin 7,4'-methyl ether, naringenin 4'-methyl ether, kaempferol 4'-methyl ether, kaempferol 3-O-rutinoside, taxifolin 4'-methyl ether, taxifolin 7-methyl ether and quercetin 4'-methyl ether. Their IC50 values ranged from 19.5 to 62.1 microM.  (+info)

Flavonoid glycosides from Chromolaena odorata leaves and their in vitro cytotoxic activity. (3/8)

Two new flavonoid glycosides, (1, 2), and eleven known compounds, (3-13), were isolated from from a 70% EtOH extract of the leaves of Chromolaena odorata (Asteraceae). Their structures were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic interpretation as well as by chemical studies. The newly isolated compounds were tested in vitro for their cytotoxic activities against the LLC and HL-60 cancer cell lines. Compound 1 showed cytotoxicity against LLC and HL-60 cancer cell lines with IC(50) values of 28.2 and 11.6 microM, respectively. Compound 2 exhibited significant cytotoxic activity in the inhibition of HL-60 cancer cell lines with IC(50) value of 10.8 microM.  (+info)

Chromolaena is a genus of flowering plants in the daisy family, Asteraceae. It includes several species that are native to the Americas and have been introduced to other parts of the world. Some Chromolaena species, such as Chromolaena odorata (Siam weed) and Chromolaena moszkowskii (Mozzkowski's crotalaria), are invasive weeds that can cause significant environmental and economic damage in areas where they have been introduced.

There is no specific medical definition associated with the term "Chromolaena" as it refers to a genus of plants, not a medical condition or treatment. However, some Chromolaena species have been used in traditional medicine for various purposes, such as treating skin conditions, wounds, and fever. It's important to note that the safety and efficacy of using Chromolaena for medicinal purposes have not been thoroughly studied, so it's recommended to consult with a healthcare professional before using any plant-based remedies.
