A mass spectrometry technique used for analysis of nonvolatile compounds such as proteins and macromolecules. The technique involves preparing electrically charged droplets from analyte molecules dissolved in solvent. The electrically charged droplets enter a vacuum chamber where the solvent is evaporated. Evaporation of solvent reduces the droplet size, thereby increasing the coulombic repulsion within the droplet. As the charged droplets get smaller, the excess charge within them causes them to disintegrate and release analyte molecules. The volatilized analyte molecules are then analyzed by mass spectrometry.
Spectroscopic method of measuring the magnetic moment of elementary particles such as atomic nuclei, protons or electrons. It is employed in clinical applications such as NMR Tomography (MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING).

Cytotoxic benzophenone derivatives from Garcinia species display a strong apoptosis-inducing effect against human leukemia cell lines. (1/51)

We examined the in vitro effects of the benzophenone derivatives garcinol, isogarcinol, and xanthochymol on cell growth in four human leukemia cell lines. All of the compounds exhibited significant growth suppression due to apoptosis mediated by the activation of caspase-3. A loss of mitochondrial membrane potential was found in garcinol- and isogarcinol-induced apoptosis, but not in xanthochymol-induced apoptosis. The growth inhibitory effects of isogarcinol and xanthochymol were more potent than that of garcinol, which is a well- known cytotoxic benzophenone derivative.  (+info)

Prenylated xanthones from Garcinia xanthochymus. (2/51)

A new prenylated xanthone, 1,3,5,6-tetrahydroxy-4,7,8-tri(3-methyl-2-butenyl)xanthone (1), was isolated from the wood of Garcinia xanthochymus together with a known xanthone, garciniaxanthone E (2). Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analysis. Compounds 1 (3 microM) and 2 (10 microM) elicited marked enhancement of nerve growth factor-mediated neurite outgrowth in PC12D cells.  (+info)

Trypanocidal constituents in plants 2.xanthones from the stem bark of Garcinia subelliptica. (3/51)

The constituents of the stem bark of Garcinia subelliptica (Guttiferae) were investigated based on its trypanocidal activity against epimastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiologic agent for Chagas' disease. As the active components, nine xanthones were isolated including two new ones, 4-hydroxybrasilixanthone B and 1,3,5,6-tetrahydroxy-4,7,8-tri(3-methyl-2-butenyl)xanthone. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analysis. Trypanocidal activity against trypomastigotes, an infectious form of T. cruzi, was also estimated as well as cytotoxic activity. Fukugetin, the major component of the bark, showed no activity.  (+info)

Trypanocidal constituents in plants 3. Leaves of Garcinia intermedia and heartwood of Calophyllum brasiliense. (4/51)

The constituents of the leaves of Garcinia intermedia and heartwood of Calophyllum brasiliense were investigated based on their trypanocidal activity against epimastigotes of Trypanosoma cruzi, the etiologic agent of Chagas' disease. As the active components, the polyisoprenylated benzophenone derivative guttiferone A and the xanthone 8-desoxygartanin were isolated along with the biflavonoids podocarpusflavone A and amentoflavone, and friedelin from the former. Three xanthones, jacareubin, 6-deoxyjacareubin, and 1,3,5,6-tetrahydroxy-2-(3-methyl-2-butenyl)xanthone from the latter showed activity. The trypanocidal activity of these compounds against trypomastigotes, an infectious form of T. cruzi, was examined as well as gossypol, berberine chloride, and harmine for comparison.  (+info)

Polyisoprenylated benzophenone, garcinol, a natural histone acetyltransferase inhibitor, represses chromatin transcription and alters global gene expression. (5/51)

Histone acetylation is a diagnostic feature of transcriptionally active genes. The proper recruitment and function of histone acetyltransferases (HATs) and deacetylases (HDACs) are key regulatory steps for gene expression and cell cycle. Functional defects of either of these enzymes may lead to several diseases, including cancer. HATs and HDACs thus are potential therapeutic targets. Here we report that garcinol, a polyisoprenylated benzophenone derivative from Garcinia indica fruit rind, is a potent inhibitor of histone acetyltransferases p300 (IC50 approximately 7 microm) and PCAF (IC50 approximately 5 microm) both in vitro and in vivo. The kinetic analysis shows that it is a mixed type of inhibitor with an increased affinity for PCAF compared with p300. HAT activity-dependent chromatin transcription was strongly inhibited by garcinol, whereas transcription from DNA template was not affected. Furthermore, it was found to be a potent inducer of apoptosis, and it alters (predominantly down-regulates) the global gene expression in HeLa cells.  (+info)

General gambogic acids inhibited growth of human hepatoma SMMC-7721 cells in vitro and in nude mice. (6/51)

AIM: To study the inhibitory effect of general gambogic acids (GGA) on transplantation tumor SMMC-7721 in experimental animal model and SMMC-7721 cells in vitro. METHODS: Anti-tumor activity of GGA in the experimental transplantation tumor SMMC-7721 was evaluated by relative tumor growth ratio. Cell morphology was observed with inverted microscope and electron microscope. Cell proliferation was measured by MTT assay and the telomerase activity was determined by PCR. RESULTS: In vivo study indicated that GGA (2, 4, and 8 mg/kg, iv, 3 times per week for 3 weeks) displayed an inhibitory effect on the growth of transplantation tumor SMMC-7721 in nude mice compared with the normal saline group (P<0.01). At the concentrations of 0.625-5.0 mg/L, GGA remarkably inhibited the proliferation of SMMC-7721 cells in vitro. GGA 2 mg/L dramatically changed morphology of SMMC-7721 cells and inhibited the telomerase activity in SMMC-7721 cells. CONCLUSION: GGA had inhibitory effect on the growth of SMMC-7721, which might be related to its inhibition of telomerase activity.  (+info)

Unified synthesis of caged Garcinia natural products based on a site-selective Claisen/Diels-Alder/Claisen rearrangement. (7/51)

A unified synthetic strategy toward caged Garcinia natural products has been designed and implemented. Central to the strategy is a tandem Claisen/Diels-Alder/Claisen rearrangement of a suitably substituted xanthone precursor to form forbesione (1a). Serving as a template, forbesione is then used to deliver representative members of this family, including desoxygaudichaudione A (4), desoxymorellin (5), and gambogin (10). Studies on the timing of this reaction cascade suggest that the C-ring Claisen/Diels-Alder rearrangement proceeds initially and is followed by the A-ring Claisen reaction. The electronic and steric effects that govern the outcome of this cascade are presented.  (+info)

Screening for tyrosinase inhibitors among extracts of seashore plants and identification of potent inhibitors from Garcinia subelliptica. (8/51)

The tyrosinase inhibitory activity of methanol extracts of the leaves of 39 plant species growing on the seashore of Iriomote island (Okinawa, Japan) was investigated. The extracts of Hibiscus tiliaceus, Carex pumila, and Garcinia subelliptica showed potent activity among them. The inhibitors in the extract of Garcinia subelliptica were purified by assay-guided fractionation to give two biflavonoids. These were known compounds (2R,3S-5,7,4',5'',7'',3''',4'''-heptahydroxy flavanone[3-8''] flavone and 5,7,4',5'',7'',3''',4'''-heptahydroxy[3-8''] biflavanone), although their strong inhibitory activity toward tyrosinase is revealed for the first time in this work. One of these biflavonoids (2R,3S-5,7,4',5'',7'',3''',4'''-heptahydroxy flavanone[3-8''] flavone) showed much stronger activity (IC50 2.5 microM) than that of kojic acid (IC50 9.1 microM) when L-tyrosine was used as the substrate.  (+info)

Garcinia mangostana, also known as the mangosteen, is not a medical term but rather the name of a tropical evergreen tree that grows in Southeast Asia, Southwest India, and other tropical regions. The tree produces a purple, edible fruit that has been used in traditional medicine for various purposes.

In modern medical research, there has been some interest in the potential health benefits of Garcinia mangostana extracts, particularly in relation to weight loss and anti-inflammatory effects. However, more research is needed to confirm these potential benefits and establish recommended dosages and safety guidelines. It's important to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen.

Xanthones are a type of chemical compound that are found in various plants and fruits. They have a variety of potential health benefits, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. Some research suggests that xanthones may help to protect against chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer, but more studies are needed to confirm these effects. Xanthones can be found in small amounts in a variety of foods, including mangosteen fruit, blackberries, and turmeric. They are also available in supplement form.

Biflavonoids are a type of flavonoid, which are plant-based compounds with antioxidant properties. Biflavonoids are unique because they consist of two flavonoid molecules joined together. They can be found in various plants, including fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Some research suggests that biflavonoids may have potential health benefits, such as reducing inflammation and protecting against oxidative stress. However, more research is needed to confirm these effects and determine the optimal dosages for human consumption.

A plant extract is a preparation containing chemical constituents that have been extracted from a plant using a solvent. The resulting extract may contain a single compound or a mixture of several compounds, depending on the extraction process and the specific plant material used. The composition of plant extracts can vary widely, and it is important to ensure their quality, safety, and efficacy before use in any application.

Garcinia cambogia, also known as Garcinia gummi-gutta, is a tropical fruit that grows in Southeast Asia and India. It's a greenish-yellow, pumpkin-shaped fruit that's often used in cooking for its sour flavor. The active ingredient in the fruit's rind, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), is extracted and sold as a dietary supplement. Medical definitions typically describe Garcinia cambogia as a plant or a source of HCA, rather than defining it as a medical treatment or diagnosis.

HCA has been promoted for weight loss because it's thought to inhibit an enzyme that helps your body store fat, and also increase levels of the brain chemical serotonin, which can make you feel less hungry. However, research on the effectiveness of Garcinia cambogia for weight loss is mixed, with some studies showing modest weight loss benefits and others finding no significant effects. It's important to note that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate dietary supplements in the same way it regulates drugs, so the quality and purity of these products can vary widely. As with any supplement, it's a good idea to talk to your doctor before starting to take Garcinia cambogia.

Prenylation is a post-translational modification process in which a prenyl group, such as a farnesyl or geranylgeranyl group, is added to a protein covalently. This modification typically occurs at a cysteine residue within a CAAX motif (C is cysteine, A is an aliphatic amino acid, and X is any amino acid) found at the carboxyl-terminus of the protein. Prenylation plays a crucial role in membrane association, protein-protein interactions, and intracellular trafficking of proteins, particularly those involved in signal transduction pathways.

I'm sorry for any confusion, but "Plant Bark" is not a term with a specific medical definition. In general, the bark refers to the outermost covering of a tree or other plant, which serves as protection and provides a barrier against external threats. It is composed of layers including the inner bark (phloem), which transports nutrients throughout the plant, and the outer bark (periderm), which is made up of dead cells that form a protective layer.

While some plants or plant parts do have medicinal properties and are used in various forms of traditional or alternative medicine, "Plant Bark" by itself does not have any specific medical connotations. If you're referring to a specific type of plant bark with potential medicinal uses, please provide more details so I can give a more accurate response.

Garcinia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Clusiaceae. It includes several species that are used in traditional medicine and as dietary supplements. One of the most well-known species is Garcinia cambogia, also known as Malabar tamarind, which contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA) in its fruit rind. HCA is a chemical that has been promoted as a weight loss aid, although its effectiveness is still a matter of scientific debate.

It's important to note that while some Garcinia species have potential health benefits, they can also have side effects and interact with certain medications. Therefore, it's always recommended to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new supplement regimen.

Garcinia kola, also known as bitter kola, is not a medical term but a botanical name of a plant species that has been used in traditional medicine. It belongs to the family Guttiferae and is found in tropical rainforests of Africa. The nuts of this plant have been used in folk medicine for treating various conditions such as liver diseases, malaria, throat infections, and fever. However, it's essential to note that while some studies suggest potential health benefits, more research is needed before any medical claims can be made. It's always recommended to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement or treatment.

Benzophenones are a class of chemical compounds that consist of a diphenylmethane structure with a carbonyl group attached to the central carbon atom. They are known for their ability to absorb ultraviolet (UV) light and are often used as UV absorbers or photoinitiators in various applications, such as plastics, coatings, and personal care products.

In the medical field, benzophenones may be used in topical medications as sunscreen agents or in pharmaceutical formulations as photostabilizers to prevent drug degradation caused by UV light exposure. However, some benzophenones have been found to have potential endocrine-disrupting properties and may pose health concerns at high levels of exposure. Therefore, their use is regulated in certain applications, and alternative sunscreen agents are being explored.

Amygdalin is a naturally occurring compound found in the seeds of some fruits, such as apricots, and in certain nuts, including almonds. It is also known as "laetrile" and has been promoted as an alternative treatment for cancer. However, its effectiveness as a cancer treatment is not supported by scientific evidence, and it can have serious side effects, including cyanide poisoning. The use of amygdalin as a medical treatment is not approved by regulatory agencies in many countries, including the United States and Canada.

I apologize for any confusion, but "Vernonia" is not a medical term. It is the name of a genus of plants in the sunflower family, also known as ironweeds. Some species of Vernonia have been used in traditional medicine, such as Vernonia anthelmintica, which has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for its supposed anti-parasitic properties. However, there is limited scientific evidence to support these uses.

If you are looking for a medical term and have made a mistake in spelling or phrasing, please let me know and I will do my best to provide an accurate definition.

Calcium citrate is a dietary supplement and medication that contains calcium in the form of calcium citrate malate. It is used to prevent and treat calcium deficiency, and as a dietary supplement for people who do not get enough calcium from their diets. Calcium citrate is also used to treat conditions caused by low levels of calcium in the blood, such as osteoporosis and certain types of muscle cramps. It works by increasing the amount of calcium in the body, which is necessary for many important functions, including bone formation and maintenance, muscle contraction, and nerve function. Calcium citrate is available in tablet and powder form, and it can be taken with or without food.

"Calophyllum" is a genus of plants that belongs to the family Calophyllaceae. These evergreen trees and shrubs are native to tropical regions of the world, particularly in Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Pacific Islands. The name "Calophyllum" comes from the Greek words "kalos," meaning beautiful, and "phyllon," meaning leaf, which refers to the attractive leaves of these plants.

Many species of Calophyllum have medicinal properties. For example, the bark, leaves, and seeds of Calophyllum inophyllum, also known as Alexandrian laurel or Indian laurel, have been used in traditional medicine to treat a variety of conditions, including skin diseases, rheumatism, and diarrhea. The oil extracted from the seeds of this plant, called "tamanu oil," is believed to have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties and is used in cosmetics and skincare products.

However, it's important to note that while some species of Calophyllum have medicinal uses, they should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. It's always recommended to consult with a healthcare provider before using any natural remedies or supplements.

Oxepins are organic compounds that contain a seven-membered ring with one oxygen atom and six carbon atoms. The structure of an oxepin is similar to that of benzene, but with one methine group (=CH−) replaced by an oxygen atom. This gives the oxepin ring a unique combination of aromaticity and reactivity, which makes it a subject of interest in organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry research.

Oxepins are relatively rare in nature, and they are not typically found in living organisms. However, some synthetic drugs contain an oxepin ring structure, and these compounds have been studied for their potential therapeutic uses. For example, some oxepin-containing drugs have been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antitumor properties.

It's worth noting that the term "oxepins" can also refer to a broader class of compounds that contain a seven-membered ring with one oxygen atom and any number of carbon atoms. However, in medical and pharmaceutical contexts, the term is most commonly used to refer specifically to the class of compounds described above.

I'm sorry for any confusion, but "fruit" is not a medical term per se. It is a common term used to describe the part of a plant that develops from the ovary after flowering and contains seeds. However, in a nutritional or dietary context, "fruits" are often referred to as foods that are typically sweet and juicy, and come from plants' flowers. They are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, making them an essential part of a healthy diet. But in a strict medical sense, there isn't a specific definition for "fruit."

Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol or wood alcohol, is a volatile, colorless, flammable liquid with a distinctive odor similar to that of ethanol (drinking alcohol). It is used in various industrial applications such as the production of formaldehyde, acetic acid, and other chemicals. In the medical field, methanol is considered a toxic alcohol that can cause severe intoxication and metabolic disturbances when ingested or improperly consumed. Methanol poisoning can lead to neurological symptoms, blindness, and even death if not treated promptly and effectively.

Phytotherapy is the use of extracts of natural origin, especially plants or plant parts, for therapeutic purposes. It is also known as herbal medicine and is a traditional practice in many cultures. The active compounds in these plant extracts are believed to have various medicinal properties, such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, or sedative effects. Practitioners of phytotherapy may use the whole plant, dried parts, or concentrated extracts to prepare teas, capsules, tinctures, or ointments for therapeutic use. It is important to note that the effectiveness and safety of phytotherapy are not always supported by scientific evidence, and it should be used with caution and preferably under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

Molecular structure, in the context of biochemistry and molecular biology, refers to the arrangement and organization of atoms and chemical bonds within a molecule. It describes the three-dimensional layout of the constituent elements, including their spatial relationships, bond lengths, and angles. Understanding molecular structure is crucial for elucidating the functions and reactivities of biological macromolecules such as proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates. Various experimental techniques, like X-ray crystallography, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), are employed to determine molecular structures at atomic resolution, providing valuable insights into their biological roles and potential therapeutic targets.

Medicinal plants are defined as those plants that contain naturally occurring chemical compounds which can be used for therapeutic purposes, either directly or indirectly. These plants have been used for centuries in various traditional systems of medicine, such as Ayurveda, Chinese medicine, and Native American medicine, to prevent or treat various health conditions.

Medicinal plants contain a wide variety of bioactive compounds, including alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, terpenes, and saponins, among others. These compounds have been found to possess various pharmacological properties, such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer activities.

Medicinal plants can be used in various forms, including whole plant material, extracts, essential oils, and isolated compounds. They can be administered through different routes, such as oral, topical, or respiratory, depending on the desired therapeutic effect.

It is important to note that while medicinal plants have been used safely and effectively for centuries, they should be used with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare professional. Some medicinal plants can interact with prescription medications or have adverse effects if used inappropriately.

In medical terms, "seeds" are often referred to as a small amount of a substance, such as a radioactive material or drug, that is inserted into a tissue or placed inside a capsule for the purpose of treating a medical condition. This can include procedures like brachytherapy, where seeds containing radioactive materials are used in the treatment of cancer to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Similarly, in some forms of drug delivery, seeds containing medication can be used to gradually release the drug into the body over an extended period of time.

It's important to note that "seeds" have different meanings and applications depending on the medical context. In other cases, "seeds" may simply refer to small particles or structures found in the body, such as those present in the eye's retina.

Terpenes are a large and diverse class of organic compounds produced by a variety of plants, including cannabis. They are responsible for the distinctive aromas and flavors found in different strains of cannabis. Terpenes have been found to have various therapeutic benefits, such as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antimicrobial properties. Some terpenes may also enhance the psychoactive effects of THC, the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. It's important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the potential medical benefits and risks associated with terpenes.

Spectrophotometry, Infrared is a scientific analytical technique used to measure the absorption or transmission of infrared light by a sample. It involves the use of an infrared spectrophotometer, which directs infrared radiation through a sample and measures the intensity of the radiation that is transmitted or absorbed by the sample at different wavelengths within the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Infrared spectroscopy can be used to identify and quantify functional groups and chemical bonds present in a sample, as well as to study the molecular structure and composition of materials. The resulting infrared spectrum provides a unique "fingerprint" of the sample, which can be compared with reference spectra to aid in identification and characterization.

Infrared spectrophotometry is widely used in various fields such as chemistry, biology, pharmaceuticals, forensics, and materials science for qualitative and quantitative analysis of samples.

Drug screening assays for antitumor agents are laboratory tests used to identify and evaluate the effectiveness of potential drugs or compounds that can inhibit the growth of tumor cells or induce their death. These assays are typically performed in vitro (in a test tube or petri dish) using cell cultures of various types of cancer cells.

The assays measure different parameters such as cell viability, proliferation, apoptosis (programmed cell death), and cytotoxicity to determine the ability of the drug to kill or inhibit the growth of tumor cells. The results of these assays can help researchers identify promising antitumor agents that can be further developed for clinical use in cancer treatment.

There are different types of drug screening assays for antitumor agents, including high-throughput screening (HTS) assays, which allow for the rapid and automated testing of a large number of compounds against various cancer cell lines. Other types of assays include phenotypic screening assays, target-based screening assays, and functional screening assays, each with its own advantages and limitations.

Overall, drug screening assays for antitumor agents play a critical role in the development of new cancer therapies by providing valuable information on the activity and safety of potential drugs, helping to identify effective treatments and reduce the time and cost associated with bringing new drugs to market.

Antineoplastic agents, phytogenic, also known as plant-derived anticancer drugs, are medications that are derived from plants and used to treat cancer. These agents have natural origins and work by interfering with the growth and multiplication of cancer cells, helping to slow or stop the spread of the disease. Some examples of antineoplastic agents, phytogenic include paclitaxel (Taxol), vincristine, vinblastine, and etoposide. These drugs are often used in combination with other treatments such as surgery, radiation therapy, and other medications to provide a comprehensive approach to cancer care.

There are several subclasses of flavonoids, including:

1. Flavanols: Found in tea, chocolate, grapes, and berries. They have been shown to improve blood flow and lower blood pressure.
2. Flavones: Found in parsley, celery, and citrus fruits. They have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
3. Flavanonols: Found in citrus fruits, onions, and tea. They have been shown to improve blood flow and reduce inflammation.
4. Isoflavones: Found in soybeans and legumes. They have estrogen-like effects and may help prevent hormone-related cancers.
5. Anthocyanidins: Found in berries, grapes, and other fruits. They have antioxidant properties and may help improve vision and memory.

It is important to note that while flavonoids have potential health benefits, they should not be used as a substitute for medical treatment or a healthy lifestyle. It is always best to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen.

I believe there may be a slight misunderstanding in your question. "Plant leaves" are not a medical term, but rather a general biological term referring to a specific organ found in plants.

Leaves are organs that are typically flat and broad, and they are the primary site of photosynthesis in most plants. They are usually green due to the presence of chlorophyll, which is essential for capturing sunlight and converting it into chemical energy through photosynthesis.

While leaves do not have a direct medical definition, understanding their structure and function can be important in various medical fields, such as pharmacognosy (the study of medicinal plants) or environmental health. For example, certain plant leaves may contain bioactive compounds that have therapeutic potential, while others may produce allergens or toxins that can impact human health.

Mass spectrometry with electrospray ionization (ESI-MS) is an analytical technique used to identify and quantify chemical species in a sample based on the mass-to-charge ratio of charged particles. In ESI-MS, analytes are ionized through the use of an electrospray, where a liquid sample is introduced through a metal capillary needle at high voltage, creating an aerosol of charged droplets. As the solvent evaporates, the analyte molecules become charged and can be directed into a mass spectrometer for analysis.

ESI-MS is particularly useful for the analysis of large biomolecules such as proteins, peptides, and nucleic acids, due to its ability to gently ionize these species without fragmentation. The technique provides information about the molecular weight and charge state of the analytes, which can be used to infer their identity and structure. Additionally, ESI-MS can be interfaced with separation techniques such as liquid chromatography (LC) for further purification and characterization of complex samples.

Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that provides information about the biochemical composition of tissues, including their metabolic state. It is often used in conjunction with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to analyze various metabolites within body tissues, such as the brain, heart, liver, and muscles.

During MRS, a strong magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer are used to produce detailed images and data about the concentration of specific metabolites in the targeted tissue or organ. This technique can help detect abnormalities related to energy metabolism, neurotransmitter levels, pH balance, and other biochemical processes, which can be useful for diagnosing and monitoring various medical conditions, including cancer, neurological disorders, and metabolic diseases.

There are different types of MRS, such as Proton (^1^H) MRS, Phosphorus-31 (^31^P) MRS, and Carbon-13 (^13^C) MRS, each focusing on specific elements or metabolites within the body. The choice of MRS technique depends on the clinical question being addressed and the type of information needed for diagnosis or monitoring purposes.
