Two new C21 steroidal glycosides from Marsdenia tenacissima (ROXB.) WIGHT et ARN. (1/3)
Two new C(21) steroidal glycosides, tenacissoside L (1), tenacissoside M (2), were isolated from the stems of Marsdenia tenacissima (ROXB.) WIGHT et ARN. Their structures were elucidated, respectively, by means of chemical and spectral data, including ESI-MS, HR-ESI-MS, 1D-NMR and 2D-NMR. Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is employed for the first time in a fingerprint analysis of Marsdenia tenacissima. Because the CE method is a new approach to fingerprinting, it is necessary to compare it to the conventional one: high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). In HPLC separation, 15 components are separated in 55 min, while in CE separation, 10 stable components are separated by 200 mM boric acid (pH 8.0) containing 10% methanol within 12 min. CE shows better performance in the analysis of Marsdenia tenacissima, which makes its fingerprint in a much lower analysis time than with HPLC. It is further proven that CE can be a feasible and cost-effective method for the development of the fingerprint of Marsdenia tenacissima. (+info)Marsdenia is a genus of plants in the Apocynaceae family, characterized by their woody climbers or shrubs, simple opposite leaves, and pendulous flowers that produce long, slender fruits containing numerous seeds.
"Marsdenia" is not a term that has a widely accepted medical definition. It is the name of a genus of plants in the family Apocynaceae, also known as the dogbane family. Some species of Marsdenia contain compounds with potential medicinal properties, and there has been some research into their use in treating various conditions such as cancer, HIV, and inflammation. However, more research is needed before these uses can be considered established medical facts.
